On Sunday 14 April, our Beehivers and supporters were delighted to see Beehive on TV.

ABC TV’s Compass program produced a special report called The Friendship Recession. The show featured different ways people across Australia are combatting loneliness and social isolation.

The story on Beehive Industries, whose goal is to provide a safe place for vulnerable seniors, people with a disability and the long-term unemployed, featured its volunteer Beehivers and showed how the social enterprise supports them to combat the social, economic and health issues that can arise from isolation and loneliness.

Long-time Beehiver Florida Twemlow starred in the program. Florida shared her typical day at Beehive and how the organisation has helped her overcome loneliness and maintain connection in her community. Other Beehivers like Zina, Josif and Xiu Lin also featured.

The report also showcased the work that our volunteers do, providing mailing, packaging and distribution services to businesses across Australia. Beehive Industries relies on this commercial business to keep its volunteers busy and the income generated enables us to support them with meals, social activities and community connection.
