OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

Working together to change lives

We've been on a mission to end loneliness in Sydney's inner-city for almost 50 years...

...but we can’t do it alone!

We’re always looking for individuals and corporations to support our work through donations or by spending time with us. Why not come along, share your skills and help to make a difference.

Individual Volunteers

Low Cost Meals for Seniors Program

This popular cooking program shows seniors and people with a disability how to prepare simple and nutritious meals on a limited budget.

Delivered by Beehive Healthy Eating Ambassador and former Masterchef contestant, Kumar Pereira, the lessons are recorded and shared on our YouTube channel.

We regularly welcome volunteers to take part in the program. You may have expertise in videography or photography and could assist us in setting up and/or shooting these segments. These segments are also available as corporate volunteering opportunities with groups of up to six people able to cook alongside our support users as they receive vital nutritional advice.

Available: One day a month, 9.30am – 12pm.

Volunteers: 2 technical volunteers & 4 cooking volunteers only

Event Support

Our monthly special events bring our support users together for a fun day of games, competitions and themed activities. From Mother’s Day and Father’s Day lunches to Melbourne Cup and Christmas events, these days usually attract up to 80 people.

We regularly require help to ensure these events run smoothly. Volunteers are needed to perform tasks such as assisting in the event set up, serving meals, organising activities and packing up equipment at the end of the day. You can offer your support for one event only or ask us about becoming a regular volunteer in our events team.

Available: Bi-monthly (Tuesdays or Thursdays), 10am – 2pm

Volunteers: Up to 6 people only

Corporate Volunteers

Corporate volunteering is a wonderful way of bringing your team together to develop skills and build relationships while giving back to the community.

We are always looking for corporate groups to join the hive of activity in our Darlinghurst centre – you can take part in our Busy Bees Program for a full day or spend a couple of hours offering event support or assisting with our Low Cost Meals for Seniors Program. We can also customise these programs for large groups on request.

Just contact us to discuss how your organisation can make a social impact with a unique team building opportunity.

Busy Bees Program – Spend a Day with Us

You and your team can ‘bee-come’ busy bees by experiencing a day in the life of our Beehive. Our day starts at 7am when our support users begin arriving for their complimentary breakfast.

You can join in our breakfast service before starting work on our production line – collating or packing materials for our business clients and making friends with our support users as they show you the ropes.

Your team will enjoy morning tea and lunch before taking part in any number of our afternoon activities – receiving food deliveries from Oz Harvest, distributing grocery parcels to our support users, calling a bingo game or joining in other recreational activities.

This hands-on program offers genuine insight into both the professional services we provide for our business clients and the services we offer our support users.

Through experiencing real social enterprise in action, your team will discover the difference we are making and understand the need for us all to work together to change lives and care for those in need in our community.

Available: Monday to Thursday, 7.30am – 2.00pm.

Volunteers: Up to 6 people only
